In April, Jill Cranford of Stone2Furniture requested a site critique from us. She and her husband, Dwayne have one of the most unique businesses I’ve ever seen. They make furniture from slabs of stone. The blending of steel and stone make for some hearty and beautiful pieces. It’s art, it’s furniture…it’s amazing.
Their old site? Not so much. The site was outdated in more ways than one (still operating on Microsoft’s FrontPage), it was too narrow for today’s larger screens, the pages were designed in HTML and difficult to manage, had far too many items in the navigation bar, the sidebar was cluttered with tiny bits of information and overall, wasn’t doing their product any justice.
The final straw that prompted Jill to have her site converted to WordPress was when GoDaddy told her they would no longer offer support for FrontPage sites. If anything were to go wrong with the site, they wouldn’t be able to fix it.

The biggest challenge with this site was creating a photo gallery Jill and Dwayne could manage easily. After trying several options, we finally settled on NextGen Gallery. This plugin allows you to create multiple galleries and place them on pages or posts as thumbnails or slides. Separate dashboard screens help you manage each one. NextGen is clean and easy to use and we’d highly recommend it for anyone who has a large amount of images to manage.
Today, Stone2Furniture is launching their new site. Go ahead and stop by. Click around and enjoy.
Congratulations Jill and Dwayne. We wish you much continued success with Stone2Furniture!
